About
An introduction to Melanie Unwin
Becoming a funeral director wasn’t just a career choice - it’s been a deeply personal journey shaped by years of experience and my own encounters with loss.
I was proud to become the first lady funeral director in our area back in 1996, and since then, I’ve spent many years supporting families with care, compassion, and dignity during some of their most difficult moments.
Alongside my work in the funeral profession, I’ve:
Run my own floristry shop and taught floristry at Sandwell College, backed by a Further Education Teachers Certificate.
Founded a bereavement support group to provide comfort and connection to those navigating grief.
Worked as a bereavement officer at Russells Hall Hospital, offering sensitive support to families in hospital settings.
And personally, I’ve been widowed - an experience that gave me a deeper understanding of what it truly means to lose someone you love.
When someone we know is grieving, we often say, “Let me know if there’s anything I can do.” Most of the time, there isn’t much anyone can do - but I’m now in the privileged position of being able to truly help, support, guide, and empower those facing bereavement.
If you ever need a listening ear, practical guidance, or simply someone to walk beside you, I’m here.
With warmth and understanding,
Melanie
